Very "Big Purrs" for veterinary services provided "on call" from our founding sponsor veterinarian, Dr. Gordon Pirie, DVM and our distinguished team of wildlife experienced, talented and knowledgeable veterinarians who generously dedicate their time and resources for the shared value of Louisiana's (and states beyond our border) mysterious, elusive and beautiful bobcat, in addition to other smaller exotic felids LBR provides for. Together, they enable Louisiana Bobcat Refuge to offer more than 60 years of specific bobcat combined experience, which makes our team the best anywhere in the nation.

According to well respected veterinarian, Gordon J. Pirie, DVM, “There is universal agreement among zoo and wildlife professionals that wild animals (exotic or indigenous) do not make acceptable pets and are illegal to own in most jurisdictions.  The problem of what to do with these animals arises once they are confiscated by wildlife authorities or in the event that the owner can no longer properly care for them.  It is incorrectly assumed by the animal’s owner that it can be safely released back into the wild or that placing the animal in a local zoo is a viable solution.  These are usually not acceptable options for a multitude of reasons and thus the question – where do these animals go to receive proper care for the remainder of their lives?  There is a great need for professionally run sanctuaries to provide long term care for these animals and to avoid certain euthanasia as the last resort.”
