Louisiana Bobcat Refuge is honored to be collaborating with the Louisiana State University, School of Education through Associate Professor Pamela Blanchard, PhD, leadership, insight and skill in developing respected programs such as Coastal Roots. LBR looks forward to collaborating on this Spring 2018 original creative endeavor for the benefit of teachers, students and a lasting legacy for this US felid  on our exclusive, "Wild Comes With Class, Louisiana's Indigenous Species Series for Classroom Teachers" pro bono Teacher Portal. Certified Educators, K-5 are encouraged to log in through LBR's Teacher Portal via their home school email address. Once inside the education portal, teachers will be able to access lesson plans that meet both GLE and Louisiana Standards for Science. Upon completion of a lesson plan, students are encouraged to become an LBR "Bobcat Achiever" and earn a bobcat badge and community service certificate. The Louisiana Bobcat Refuge believes, "Wild cats belong in the wild, and shelter pets make friends for life." LBR has five adopted formerly feral domestic rescues, and two are used as outreach ambassadors. LBR is closed to the public to maintain the wild nature of the rescues. However, because there are feline friends in the community that can use our help, LBR encourages students to volunteer individually or with their class at a local shelter upon completion of their, "Wild Comes With Class" lesson. The ultimate goal is two-fold. Why the "wild shouldn't come to class, but should remain wild and free as Mother Nature intended," along with other species specific details and enjoyable activities with each creative lesson plan is one. The second is the learner gets the hands on experience and understanding of what shelter life is like for an animal, what responsibility of pet ownership is required, the increased likelihood of shelter pets being adopted to a loving family, and the significance of volunteerism and community involvement from a young age.
